| Reviewed by | ndial | Operation Firestorm is a side-scrolling old fashioned 'lone soldier against the world' affair, and a cross between Green Beret and Midnight Resistance (I would also say Robocop too). Released only on the Commodore Amiga by F1 Licenceware. |

STORY / GAMEPLAY:You wander across a backdrop of gun turrets, tanks, grenade launchers and enemy snipers. At the end of each level there is a relevant guardian, from an enormous tank, to a big automated gun in a ball. Your main weapon's ammunition is unlimited but its not that effective on the incoming troops (need a lot of bullets to actually get rid of them). Fortunately, you can upgrade your firepower by searching crates holding better guns, which also hide healing potions and lives. Gameplay is rather simple, and the only cons is the tricky way to fire your rifle in different angles which always seems to take a split-second longer than an enemy needs to pull out his gun and blast you! Overall, the game's pace is intense, but is certainly cheap looking for 1993!
GRAPHICS / SOUND:Graphics are nice but not something to amaze you. Everything is nicely drawn without any eye-catching backdrops, large color-palettes or parallax-scrolling. Each stage has its own graphics and perspective and this adds a lot to the overall presentation of the game. The sprites look great though and they move fast and smooth. Apart from the wonderful intro music theme, the game's sound offers a few nicely done sampled effects, with the standard boom type explosive noises, along with the rat-a-tat of your gun. | |
